An Interview with Erin Trafford
Who are you and what are you currently working on?
My name is Erin Trafford and I’m the CEO of DIY Passion Media – a content creation and consultancy agency that specializes in blogging, influencer marketing and branded content. My flagship site is DIY Passion, where I work with a team of writers (including me!) to craft authentic and useful content related to home renovations, homemaking and lifestyle. I work with brands from across North America and right now, I’m working on expanding the other branches of my company – namely consulting and coaching – so as to help other lifestyle bloggers achieve the same levels of success that I have achieved.
How did you get started in affiliate marketing? What keeps you excited about it?
I got started with affiliate marketing a few years ago and what excites me most is how passive it can be. I love that I can drop a link into a high value post and have it serve me for months or years down the line.
What is one piece of advice you’d give to a newbie affiliate marketer? And what is one piece of advice they should ignore?
I think I’d tell a new affiliate marketer to always make sure you are crafting authentic content first. Don’t create content just to add affiliate links – your audience will see right through that and you won’t be successful.
Advice to ignore? That you need a big list to be successful. You really don’t. You need an engaged, targeted audience.
What has been your favorite mistake? A mistake that in retrospect led to a great lesson and progress in your affiliate marketing?
See above! LOL Initially I thought I wasn’t big enough to have results in the affiliate marketing space.
What is one piece of software or a web service (besides Geniuslink) that allows you to be more effective as an affiliate marketer?
I love to use the Mediavine Create card plugin to create round-ups and lists.
How do you continue to educate yourself as an affiliate marketer? What are some of your favorite resources for learning?
I have taken Tasha Agruo’s Affiliate Marketing course and it’s fabulous.
If people wanted to connect with you, where should we point them to?
The best place to go is www.thebloggirlchronicles.com!
