An Interview with Brian Meiggs

Who are you and what are you currently working on?

I’m Brian and I run a digital media agency called MeiggsMedia (https://www.meiggsmedia.com) that provides entrepreneurs, small businesses, and bloggers digital solutions to boost their success.
As part of my business, I also run three personal finance blogs, My Millennial Guide (https://www.mymillennialguide.com), Beat Student Loans (https://www.beatstudentloans.com), and Hustler Gigs (https://www.hustlergigs.com).

These websites specialize in personal finance tips, student loans, and side hustles. On these sites, I curate engaging personal finance articles and helpful tools and tips for my readers. Within these articles, I’ll occasionally share financial products through affiliate links which helps me earn revenue.

How did you get started in affiliate marketing? What keeps you excited you about it?

I started my blog 3 years ago, but it wasn’t until the 2nd year that I actually started generating any real income. It was a huge learning curve at first because I had no prior experience with building a successful website. I had to learn how affiliate marketing, SEO, digital marketing, and creating engaging content works and then how to profit from it all. The best part is I love doing this every day! Waking up every day and grinding on my niche sites puts a smile on my face.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to a newbie affiliate marketer? And what is one piece of advice they should ignore?

Just start a blog, Youtube channel, Instagram marketing account, whatever it is, just start it. All the information is out there for you to be successful, and for free. If you don’t start, you can’t make any money nor progress.

What has been your favorite mistake? A mistake that in retrospect led to a great lesson and progress in your affiliate marketing?

My favorite mistake was not learning from the success of others. What really helped me in year 2 of starting all of this was looking at other bloggers income reports. Especially bloggers that were in my own niche and doing affiliate marketing. I knew that if it was working for them, it could work for me. They all said more traffic = more money. That meant I had to become better at targeting long-tailed keywords that I knew I could rank for. Once the traffic started pouring in, I optimized my pages getting a lot of traffic and my monthly income went up tenfold. I now run over 15+ niche blogs and have my own digital marketing company, MeiggsMedia, which brings in over six figures a year!

What is one piece of software or a web service that allows you to be more effective as an affiliate marketer?

I continued to grow my search traffic and research my competitors and monitor my niche by using tools like Ahrefs and SemRush. I highly recommend using one or the other in order to grow your traffic. More traffic = more revenue.

How do you continue to educate yourself as an affiliate marketer? What are some of your favorite resources for learning?

I continue to learn about the affiliate marketing trends by attending awesome expos and reading some of the top affiliate marketing blogs. My personal favorite is Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income Blog.
